Charities that help the less fortunate find it hard at times to get
donations from businesses and when they do get donations it is just not enough.
When a business makes a donation to a charity it comes out of their profit
margins and
yet is a tax deduction and goodwill and PR. Barter solves the problem of not
being able to give more to a charity because there is a limited amount of cash
to give.
Taxes & barter dollars: the corporate benefits
Another benefit of barter dollars being used by a business is that at the end of
each year any company with a positive barter dollars balance in their barter
bank account must pay taxes on that revenue just like cash profits. Since it
makes no sense to carry a balance and pay cash taxes corporations look to zero
out their barter bank accounts so that they zero out their taxable liability.
Donating to a charity helps the business avoid taxation.
The charity gets large donations at the end of the year, which comes at a great
time since raising money at that time is a big concern. Going into the new year
the charity now has a large barter dollar balance that it is not concerned with
the taxable implications since it is in many cases a 501(c)-3 and is exempt from
taxation.
